A Leader in Learning

The THGS Learning Model - Dimensions of Excellence

The Whole School Learning Model developed by THGS places student learning at the centre of all of our activities offered within a contemporary and innovative learning community. The School's Leader in Learning Strategy aims to:

  • engage students in the highest quality learning
  • focus on outcomes and maximize success for all learners.

Student learning at THGS involves the development of the whole child as outlined in the School's Mission and includes Scholarship (intellectual development & academic endeavour), Personal Development (physical, emotional, social & ethical) and Citizenship (leadership & service).

The THGS Learning Model provides clarity of purpose and ensures that all the activities (operational and strategic) which make up the Leader in Learner Strategy are consistent, reinforce each other and optimise the opportunities for learning and the achievement of learning outcomes.

Clarity of purpose is achieved by the overarching context of the Model that reflects the inter-connection of the School's Vision, Mission, Graduate Aim and Values.

As identified in the Model, student learning is built on three related programs and includes the academic, co-curricular and wellbeing areas.

Importantly, THGS Learning Model recognizes the important place of staff and parent learning. Through investment in this learning the capacity to deliver high quality and innovative learning experiences to all students is enhanced, which in turn contributes to improved learning outcomes.

Learning and Teaching at THGS is:
  • Enabling: we empower our students by creating conditions which help them to feel valued, supported and confident as learners.
  • Enriching: we know our students and teach in ways which engage all students in their learning and encourage them to seek and use quality feedback.
  • Extending: we challenge our students at an appropriate level and set clear and high expectations.
